How they performed during the pandemic
Over the past three years, I have experimented with six different side gigs:
- Authoring books
- Creating video courses
- Writing articles for Medium
- Speaking at conferences
- Working as an independent software contractor
- Affiliate marketing
In this article, I will detail how these various side gigs have performed during this time, and also a little on where I plan to go starting next year. The amounts specified, both good and bad, are really what I earned doing this stuff.
In March 2020 the world changed for everyone. It had a profound impact on people’s lives around the world, and many people have had to make significant changes in order to adapt to their new realities.
One of the changes I in my life was that I suddenly found myself working from home full time, which meant I was no longer commuting 45–90 minutes every day. I decided to do something with my former commuting time. After reading a book on self-publishing at Amazon, I looked around and wondered what I could produce quickly.
