James Stewart (aka Jimmy Stewart, though he did not care for that nickname) was a top actor in the 20th century who appeared in more than 80 films during his career. Born in 1908 in Indiana, Pennsylvania, Stewart initially pursued a career in architecture before turning to acting. He made his Broadway debut in 1932, and his film debut in 1935.

Stewart was known for his unique acting style and his ability to portray characters with a wide range of emotions. He won an Academy Award for Best Actor in 1940 for his performance in “The Philadelphia Story,” and he was also known for his collaborations with director Alfred Hitchcock.

I discovered James Stewart late in his life, well after the pinnacle of his career. He quickly became one of my favorite actors. Though I have still not managed to see all of his movies, there are several that stand out to me as my favorites, which I share below, in no particular order.
